Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy

fire academy logoIn 2006, The Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy was founded. The fire academy is a Regionally Accredited Training Program through the California State Fire Marshal's Office and the State Board of Fire Services. The Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy is a collaborative effort between Lake Tahoe Community College, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy at the Lake Tahoe Community College is a three quarter long program, which culminates in the instructional requirement for Firefighter I certification through the California State Fire Marshal's office.

The LTCC Fire Academy curriculum is designed to prepare students for initial employment in the field of Fire Technology. It also prepares students for upper divisional course work towards a bachelor's degree.

Firefighters work as a team at emergency scenes. This three-part course is physically and academically demanding. The program is accredited by the California State Fire Marshal's Office as a Regional Training Program.
